PLEASE HELP!!

Hi,

I installed Windows XP a few months ago (was using ME until then).
Yesterday morning my computer was fine but by the afternoon I noticed it was
slow. I was using Excel and IE at the time. By last night when I returned
to my computer and turned it on, nothing worked. The computer kept trying to
reboot over and over again.

I saw a Blue Screen that said "Unmountable_Boot_Volume" It also said
"Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing" The bottom said
"Technical Information: Stop: 0x000000ED" and a whole bunch of letters and
zeros after that.

I have a Dell Inspiron 8100. My anti-virus and spysweeper recently lapsed.

I called Microsoft last night but didn't get much help there.

Can anyone PLEASE advise what is wrong? Is it a virus? Did my hard drive die?

Any suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!!

Thanks but the links were even more confusing. Last night when I spoke to
Microsoft they had me do "chkdsk /r" and "fixboot" and nothing happened.

As for the links you provided I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do?? Thank
you.

Now when I turn on my computer it says "NTLDR not found... Press any key to
restart"

Can someone please tell me what happened??? Thank you.

When you loaded XP did you format your drive first or did you upgrade from
ME?
Sounds like you have more problems than you think you may have. As soon as
you fix one problem another may arise, and it appears this has already
happened. Seems to me your biggest mistake was using ME in the first place.
Yes, you can ask for help but probably all you'll get will be answers from
experienced users directing you to this link and that link only to find that
more confusing.
There's only one logical answer for you, any many might disagree, DO A
CLEAN FORMAT AND RE-INSTALL XP. Why? Because your machine is completely
screwed by now. Then install decent protection like ad, spyware, virus and
malware protection. A decent backup of your system wouldn't go astray
either.
Of course you could ignore this and go by way of all the other advice your
getting and go from link to link.

Ps.. Put your bios back the way it was and leave the damn thing alone.
