I know I am not in the right news group but I am hoping someone has an idea
that might help me.

On Wednesday I changed from cable internet to AT&T Yahoo DSL. I am using
Win XP and I had participated in the XP new user group. Many of those
people knew about almost anything.

Anyhow all seems to be working fine except for downloading the news groups
from 'news.houston.sbcglobal.net'. Today I found the MSN news list and
downloaded immediately.

AT&T says it is a Yahoo problem. I cannot get any help from Yahoo.

Do you think there is a problem with news.houston.sbcglobal.net ?

I may have made a mistake changing but DSL is #0/month cheaper than Cable.

Any help will surely be appreciated.

TIA

I do have that server on my list now. The news groups are very limited.
None of the groups I used to read are on the microsoft site.

There has to be a reason that OE says it cannot download the news from the
site provided by AT&T.

Did you follow the instructions here?

Setting up Outlook Express Newsreader

You can also do this...
MICROSOFT PUBLIC NEWSGROUPS
[[There are many valuable newsgroups on the msnews.microsoft.com server, on
nearly every available topic and in many different languages. Clicking the
links below will automatically create any necessary account configuration in
Outlook Express and take you directly to the newsgroup you have selected -
no complicated technical configurations are needed!]]

Hello,
Folks down the road have the same problem you have.
Suggested until they find an answer the may try to access newsgroups with
one of the free on-line services. Use Google and visit a few on-line sites.
There were two that I used: freenews.netfront.net and news.readfreenews.net
Do not know if they are around and still free.
There is news.microsoft.com for Microsoft newsgroups.
These can be installed in your mail program such as Outlook Express.
take care.
