I have tried to do my due diligence in Google on this issue, but I do not
know how to proceed. Apparently, "wuauclt.exe" is a Windows update
component, most commonly associated with ME, although undoubtedly part of XP
Professional (which I am running).
Whatever the case, this file has only recently begun working on my machine.
I'd never seen it prior to a few nights ago, and there is no way I could
have missed it. It is active virtually all the time. The hourglass becomes
active beside my pointer/cursor every 10-15 seconds - around the clock. It
appears in Task Manager, then disappears. I've seen it listed as a user
process and also a system process. I shut it down; it fires back up. I
have deleted the files from the system32 directory, and I've deleted it from
the registry. It comes right back. I have run 2 spyware programs and 2
anti-virus programs to see if it's some type of malware. Evidently it is
not.
What can I do?
Thank you for any input.
