Typing:HELP Gets the main menu in recovery, before that you might tr
search at microsoft to find the location of hal.dl
For refrence to recovery use,type:307937 and 307654

thanks rodger, i think im am looking in the right dirrection for help. I'll see if I have the know who to "expand" the cd.

error in the software
load needs DLLs for Kernel.

what now?

From Kelly's site:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm

"Most likely you will need to expand the file from the CD. The command
would be expand d:\i386\hal.dl_ c:\windows\system32\hal.dll.
Substitute d: for the drive letter of your CD. Once you have expanded
the file type "exit" to exit the Recovery Console and restart the
computer. "

If you did this, using the XP CD, and still would not boot.

Then try doing a repair-install, which should preserve your data.

Good luck
