After fighting to get rid of a Trojan horse virus, I am missing the internet
browser. E-mail works OK. Clicking 'Internet' icon gets me the message
'Internet Explorer has stopped working:". I tried 'restore' but it is not
working either. I get the message 'an unspecified error occurred during
system restore'. I scanned with AVG and the files it scanned are clean. I
have a 'restore' DVD made by the computer vendor but when I stick it in the
CD drive nothing happens. The computer is a 1 year old ACER with VISTA home
premium preinstalled.

How do I proceed from here? I have no idea what to do.

Thanks for any help.

Once your PC is infected with a computer virus, your computer
becomes compromised and nothing less than a reinstallation
of the Vista operating system is going to work. Yes, you
can scan and eliminate the initial virus, but you generally
cannot undo the damage caused by the virus to the system
files. You'll need to contact Acer support and ask for
instructions on how to use the Acer recovery media to
perform a "destructive recovery" which will reformat
the hard drive and reinstall Windows Vista.

After restoring your system, consider installing a good
antivirus program, such as Windows OneCare. You can
try it absolutely FREE for 90 days.

Sorry? What a LOAD OF CRAP. Really Carey - you are showing your TOTAL
STUPIDITY again. HOW THE HELL did you ever get to be MVP? Grease Bill's
palm with silver did you? I have NEVER heard anyone come up with SO MUCH
DRIVEL as you do.
Give it a rest, PLEASE.

If you got one piece of malware you probably got others and no one program
will catch everything.
Do a thorough check for malware, following all of the steps at one of these
Web pages.

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing programs like Messenger Plus,
whose ads for malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince
you that you owe it to the author. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.

First good thing I've ever really heard about "One Care!"
