Please help! Recover uninstall/deleted files

I uninstalled an ftp server which deleted the main user folder that
contained large files. Usually I'm prompted to save such folders or it's
done automatically during the uninstall process, but this particular program
did not give me the option. I tried to restore the system to a previous
state and that didn't help at all. Is there anyway to recover these files?
I'm new to XP.

stop using the drive on which your files resided or you will over write
them. Then get an undelete program like this one:

You need an undelete utility, there are many freely available on the web
simply by searching google.com. I have used this one with some good success:
