HI All

I have a windows2003 active directory domain in my company and all the
desktop pc are windows 2000 professional. We have few OUs which is populated
by computers not users, and all the policies are defined on OU level (OU
have computer objects) and all the users are normal Domain Users.

PROBLEM :- Users are not able to share any folder on their own win2kprof
computer.

I want to give minimun permission to users so that they can share the
folders.
Can anyone Please Help me?

Anuj,

A couple of things here:

1) not really sure how this is an Active Directory problem. Sharing folders
on a local PC - regardless of OS - has really nothing to do with Active
Directory, and

2) why are the users sharing folders ( well, I guess 'trying to share' would
be appropriate in this case ) on their local machines in the first place?
Do you not have shared folders on a network server? That would be the place
to do this ( whatever 'this' might be ). I mean, just from the perspective
of backing things up would be enough for me. Generally - and this might be
different in your environment - the workstations are not backed up and the
Servers are.

If users want to share folders locally then that is okay. But they need to
be very aware that whatever they save in those shared local folders should
absolutely not be work related. And they need to be very aware that if
their computer poops out that they are pretty much SOL as far as that data
is concerned ( naturally you would make every effort to get to that
data.....you just might not be able to do that ).

Now, what do you mean that they can not share any folders locally? Do they
not know how to do this? Do they attempt but are given 'access denied' - or
something similar? Does it look like they are successful but then no one can
access it? How are they doing this? Are they creating a folder on their
desktop ( or some other location....should not really be the point here )
and then right click on it to share it but they can not? Can they share it
but the permissions that they want to assign are not available?

Have you tried in the 'Computer Management' area ( right click My Computer
and select 'Manage' is one way to get there )?
