I have lost my sound, and when I go to the control panel and open up
speakers etc, I cannot move the bar to adjust the volume. It just
won't slide--nor am I able to change the speaker settings. I get an
occasional sound from the speakers, but I am unable to get the sound to
cooperate. Also, I would like to know how to install a speaker icon.
Any help will be appreciated.

The System Tray icon 'display' can be found under Control Panel, Sounds and
Audio Devices... it's the line:

Place volume icon on task bar

Have you tried reinstalling your audio drivers... if it's integrated to the
motherboard, the quickest place to look is the website of the PC
manufacturer or the website of the motherboard manufacturer, if it's a
separate soundcard, it's the website of the soundcard manufacturer.
