yup, uninstalling your graphics driver definitely messed things up. Can't
help but wonder why you did that.
You might try clicking on the desktop, chosing advanced properties and
setting a different resolution, but in the end you will have to reinstall
the driver you had uninstalled.

Don't forget that you can use keys like TAB and the arrows to navigate
controls on pop-ups like "Display Properties", even when the applicable
buttons are off the lower or right edges of the display. When a
rectangle appears around the "Screen Resolution" slider you can move it
with the left and right arrow keys. A single SHIFT-TAB will highlight
the "OK" button (allowing the ENTER key to "click" it).

Apparently you have deleted your video accelerator driver. That is
probably something beyond the Windows System Recovery utilities' ability
to repair.

IF you have a separate installation CD for your graphics
accelerator/video card you could insert it into your CD reader. It just
MIGHT autorun an application that will reinstall your video drivers OR
offer a menu to run the driver installation software.

IF you can see enough to navigate your video card manufacturer's web
site you may be able to download software to reinstall video drivers
from their support or download pages. If you don't have a separate video
card you might find video accelerator drivers on your computer
motherboard manufacturer's web site.

A generous acquaintance might allow you to download the driver
installation software on their machine and allow you to use a CD-R or
flash drive to transfer the driver installation software to your computer.

Sometimes you have to bite the bullet and use the factory reset media
that come with many name brand computer systems. The problem with that
procedure is that it might erase ALL of your user data including typed
documents, email and photographs. That is where people regret not
producing those data backups you are frequently hearing recommended.

Hello mckeggie,

Switch off the comp and remove the graphics card. Restart. Win will pick
a generic vga driver. Then reinstal the vendor driver.

Do you have an ATI video card? You need to get the right drivers. See below
for general drivers information.

Never get drivers from Windows Update. Get them from:

1. The device mftr.'s website; OR
2. The motherboard mftr.'s website if hardware is onboard; OR
3. The OEM's website for your specific machine if you have an OEM computer
(HP, Dell, Sony, etc.).

Read the installation instructions on the website where you get the drivers.

To find out what hardware is in your computer:

1. Read any documentation you got when you bought the computer.
2. If the computer is OEM, go to the OEM's website for your specific model
machine and look at the specs (you'll be there to get the drivers anyway)
3. Download, install and run a free system inventory program like Belarc
Advisor or System Information for Windows.

Thanks for your quick reply! My laptop is Acer so i am currently on their
website trying to find the correct driver to download but i am failing. I

any of the results i got back from that. I'm pretty useless. Can you suggest

Acer is notoriously difficult to get drivers from. You really have to
search. Google using the search term, "Acer [your model] video drivers.
Obviously where I've written [your] model you'll insert your own model.
Example: Acer Aspire 420Z video drivers.

There is no need to run Belarc. As I already told you, get drivers from:

"The OEM's website for your specific machine if you have an OEM computer
(HP, Dell, Sony, etc.)."

You *only* want drivers from Acer for your specific model computer.
