I have been working on this for 12 hours now. I need Java installed and working on my windows xp professional. I have tried downloading and installing...uninstalling and re-downloading...checking my internet options...Java is not even an option to even check a box. When I try to install a box appears that says "your browser does not support java, or java is not enabled. I really need this to work. Please someone walk me through this.

Have you tried to install it in "safe mode?"

What Internet Browser and version of it are you running now? Have you tried
upgrading your Browser?
Why do you need Java, and did you go to Sun Microsystems to get the latest
version of it ?
If you aren't very knowledgeable about computers, I would suggest you try
taking it to the local repair shop.
Probably would be quicker and cheaper for you.

Greetings --

As the result of a lawsuit by Sun Microsystems, and the ensuing
settlement, Microsoft is no longer allowed to provide its own Java
Virtual Machine to Windows users. You can get almost the same
functionality by downloading Sun's version of Java from
http://java.sun.com/getjava/index.html. If you want the broader
capabilities of Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine, it is still
available from a lot of 3rd-party web sites, some of which are listed
here: http://www.java-virtual-machine.net/download.html.

If you do choose the Microsoft JVM, be sure to visit Windows
Update to apply a needed security patch.
