Hello. I recently purchased a new laptop that is running Windows XP SP2
Professional with Internet Explore 6.0 SP2. My question is: How do I make
Yahoo Mail my default email program? I know I need to go to Tools>internet
option>programs tab and then from the E-mail drop down menu I select it...but
I do not see Yahoo Mail as an option. I recall that I was able to do that on
my previous laptop that was running Win2K Professional with IE 5.0. Also, on
my old laptop I had Yahoo Messenger and on my new laptop I do not have Yahoo
Messenger installed. So maybe thats why its not an option. Any
advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Rochelle.

<kicks back & relaxes> Good for you. Stick around for awhile. If you get
bored, stop in at IE6 Browser.

Hi Bert and Michael. Thank you for your suggestion but I messed something up
I think. Let me explain. I took your suggestion and it worked perfectly.
The two things that happened during the installation process is that a
message appeared telling me I had to install an active x control file (or
something like that); I hesitantly installed it. Then a popup window
appeared asking me to download the small yahoo file; which I did. I know the
process worked successfully because I went into tools>internet
options>programs tab and I noticed yahoo mail was now my default. The
following will explain my problem:
So I panic because I thought I read somewhere its not a good idea to load
"active x control files" so I went to add/remove programs and removed the
"yahoo mail" file. So I shut down my computer lastnight and went to bed.
This morning I decided to reinstall file to make Yahoo Mail as my default.
So I started the process again but this time the "go to this help page" link
is BOLD and not a link. In otherwords, I can't click on it to go to the next
page. I have "refreshed the page". I also went into tools>options and
delete my cookies, delete temp files and offline files and then restarted my
laptop. The "go to this help page" is still BOLD. I did notice that other
links in the Yahoo Help Central work but for some reason the link that I need
is BOLD. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you and I learned my lesson
which is not to mess with something that works..its just that I freaked out
because of the active control x file....I think I heard somewhere that could
be harmful. Thank you again. By the way, why is this happening? Rochelle.

Is that uninstallable?

IE Tools>Internet Options>Programs>Mail> Is Yahoo still an option here?

Hello PA - I interpret your question "Is that uninstallable?" in various
ways. Let me answer your second part - Yahoo Mail is no longer an option
when I go to tools>internet options>programs tab>mail. The Yahoo Mail option
disappeared after I uninstalled the program lastnight.
Now let me touch on your 1st question and explained how I removed the
program. I went to add/remove programs and noticed on the list a NEW program
called "Yahoo Mail"; which its safe to assume that was the small file I just
downloaded to make Yahoo Mail my default. I did notice that the "size, used,
last used on" information was ALL blank. The "change/remove" button was only
present. So I simply clicked on it and it disappeared from add/remove
programs list. So I then went into tools>internet options>programs>mail and
Yahoo Mail was gone. Up to this point I had no reason to be concerned
because everything happened the way it was supposed to. But then this
morning is when I noticed that when I wanted to install the file again by
clicking on the "go to this help page" is when I noticed its in bold letter
and I do not have the option to click on it. I hope I make sense. Thank you
in advance. Rochelle.
