Please Help "Adding Mouse Over Sounds"

M

Mike Hemphill

I'm nolonger using the hover button component for my mouse overs as
suggested...

(visit www.bayareawindow.com) Where it list our service down page left I
have the dhtml effect swapping pictures and the echoecho code for opening a
new window on click. Now my boss (he has no clue how hard this stuff is
just keeps asking for more) would like me to insert sounds on mouse overs as
well. Any way to do this... within the following code:

<a
onmouseover="document['fpAnimswapImgFP24'].imgRolln=document['fpAnimswapImgF
P24'].src;document['fpAnimswapImgFP24'].src=document['fpAnimswapImgFP24'].lo
wsrc;"
onmouseout="document['fpAnimswapImgFP24'].src=document['fpAnimswapImgFP24'].
imgRolln"href="#"
onClick="MyWindow=window.open('http://www.bayareawindow.com/highrise.htm','M
yWindow','toolbar=no,location=yes,directories=no,status=no,menubar=yes,scrol
lbars=yes,resizable=yes,width=550,height=450'); return false;">
<img border="0" src="images/highwinbtn1.gif" id="fpAnimswapImgFP24"
name="fpAnimswapImgFP24" dynamicanimation="fpAnimswapImgFP24"
lowsrc="images/highwinbtn2.gif" width="236" height="26"></a></td>

Hey Down Here!!! I dont mean to keep giving you code but just wanted you to
see what I'm working with.

Let's say my sound file is empty.au How can I make this work (my boss is
insistant)

Does he realize that many might be annoyed by such sounds. I know I would be
and usually have my speakers turned off.

Very Joyful \(Victoria\)

You didn't ask for this and I don't mean to be cruel, because generally the
site looks nice, but here's what I say...

Tell your boss that Victoria says to GET OVER IT.

Mouseover sounds are annoying unless they make sense, and they rarely make
sense.

You've got waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much stuff moving and shaking as it is.

--The music on your site is not in keeping with a professional business.
--The green squares don't make any sense.
--The fading title (window cleaning to painting/waterproofing) is very
distracting.
--And you've got the building slide show.
--Egads... pop-ups too???

I have a cable modem and your pages load slowly.

Sorry to be harsh, but the content, the message is getting completely lost
in all the bells and whistles.

HTH, Victoria

P.S. Here's an idea for your design that may please your boss so much that
he'll forget all about the sounds (or not.) Instead of green squares, use an
image of a small dirty window. When you hover, let an image of a clean
window with something pretty (and related to the link) appear. As if the
hovering cleans the window. Btw... too much dark blue. You need some light
spots to make people think of "clean."

Plus you've got the building photo slide show. Argh.

Try www.A1javascripts.com

I think they have a script to use for mouseover sounds
that I've also gotten to work with mouseover pictures.

BTW, I agree, mouseover sounds are annoying!

Good Luck!

I'm not on a cable, and it's now been 5 minutes getting your site
loaded!!!!! You really need to put up a *MUCH* simpler screen to start
with. Remind your boss that what he's seeing is <probably> on a local
system and speed is not a factor there. Those of us on dial up would like
to be considered -- do most of your customers have cable / dsl?? - if not
you may be losing customers who don't want to wait to see just what 'bells
and whistles' you're going to show next. I'm in the country in Texas on a
notoriuosly slow line, but at 8 minutes your site has not completed
loading --- is this *really* necessary.
