playing wmv/asf files

My PC always freezes when I try to play a video which is in wmv or asf format,i've tried using windows media player,winamp,real,installed k-lite codec pack,all still result.This happens even after formatting HDD. Anyone can help please. Many thanks.

Have you checked to see if there are any driver updates to your video
card/chipset?
