When I insert a QuickTime file and try to play it, Windows Media Player
starts and says it cannot play the file. Is there someway to change the
player type from Windows Media to QuickTime?

You could also convert your .mov to .avi using

http://sourceforge.net/projects/mp4cam2avi/

or

http://www.radgametools.com/bnkdown.htm

With the last tool its worth pointing out that when you do the conversion
you need to pick a video codec that will exist on any machine the .avi is
likely to be played on.

You could also take this one step further and turn the .avi into .wmv using
Windows Movie Maker.
