Playing a DVD

I have a new computer and am trying to play my first DVD
from a rental store. I cannot for the live of me find
the correct way to do this. I feel like a didtz, as I
have been using computers for more than 25 years. Please
won't someone respond. I really want to watch this movie
tonight. I am using Windows XP software. PLEASE HELP
ME!! Thanks.

2 prerequisites need fullfilling before you can play DVD's in XP.

1) You need a DVD drive, CD Rom drives cannot read DVD discs
2) You need DVD playback software such as WinDVD or PowerDVD. It is not
built in to XP. Once you install one of these program, they enable Windows
Media Player for DVD playback also.
