Placing word Documents into Access Table.

Is this possible, and if so how.

I need to create a database that tracks when a document has changed and link
to that document through the form. It would be easier for me if i could
keep all the files central. If not any other ideas how i could accomplish
the same thing
 
SourceSafe and SharePoint were designed to be document management
repositories, with checkin and checkout capabilities.
