Placing picture and text

B

B.W.

I am having trouble placing a graphic to the right side of text. I have
read the Help and MS explanation but it doesn't seem to work. I am working
with a template created by someone else so I'm not sure if the text is
within a
text box or not, how do I tell this, it also has a border around it. Would
this
make a difference anyway?

All I have is three lines of text to the left of a column with a line space
between each, like so.

I want to place a small clipart which is a jpg to the right of this text
which would be aligned to the right of the column so that the bottom of it
lines up with the bottom of the text. When I go into format picture layout
none of the five options is what I want and the Advanced is greyed out here.
What am I doing wrong? Help appreciated

I always find the easiest way to work with pics in a word doc is to put them
in a text box.

Insert text box, drag it to where you want the pic, adjust box size. Put
cursor inside text box and insert picture. You can make the text box with no
line if you don't want a border.

You need to insert the graphic then select it - right click > format picture
layout, and set the wrap to anything other than in-line with text (if you
want it to wrap, use 'square' otherwise 'in front of text' is probably the
best bet. You can then drag it to wherever you want. It shouldn't matter
whether the text is in a text box or not, however if it is in a filled text
box, the graphic may be obscured by the fill. In this case right click the
graphic and select Order > Bring to front.

Thanks for suggestions but unfortunately I couldn't get them to work.

When I select the picture and go to format picture I can't select any of the
options. The option to bring to the front wasn't available either.

I couldn't seem to be able to insert a text box within a text box. I then
tried inserting a text box into a new doc and copy and pasted into the old
doc but it does the same thing.

The graphic just wants to take over the line space between the text.

The layout is two text columns with borders around them and the graphic to
be place within this text box or column.

The clip art I have been given to use is a simple clipart graphic which I
think may have been converted to jpg format, would this matter? Maybe
there's some other formatting taking over on this document which as I
mentioned was created by someone else.

Thank you anyway

Forget text boxes!
Insert the image on the page. It sounds as though you have your default
image insertion to be 'in-line'. Either change that in tools > options (word
options for Word 2007) or right click and change the layout properties.

Thanks Graham. I have tried that and I can't select anything in format -
layout with that picture. I have started a new doc and inserted the pic as
you said and I can change the different layout options on it so there must
just be something blocking this action on this page layout that I have to
use.

Do you want to send me a copy to examine - via the link on my web site?

Thanks for the offer Graham but I have had to use the page as is, minus the
clipart. Thinking back I seem to remember this layout may have originally
been created in Publisher and converted to Word, so that might be where the
problem has arisen.

Next month when I receive the new data to insert, I will try and re-create
the whole page in a new doc and see if that works. If it doesn't, I may
have to get back to you. Once again many thanks for your assistance.

I am trialling a new feedback form on my web site which does not accept
attachments. If you need to send me anything, contact me by the link (if it
is still running in the same format) first.
