Kerio Personal Firewall (#0409-PW)

Personally, I think we should nominate v4, rather than the old version. It
is more secure and easier to use than the older version. Any thoughts?

2.1.5 seems to command a lot more respect...

Every thread I've read in ACF comparing the two, it was always the v215
that emerged victor.

Have you *tried* them? I have sampled several firewalls recently:

* Softperfect - very light and no install, but the learning dialogs were
difficult and slow to configure.
* Outpost - front page of the site says it is now a "free 30-day trial
version".
* ZoneAlarm - bloated
* Sygate - not bad
* Kerio v2 - nice and light.
* Kerio 4 - easier to use than old Kerio and blocks applications from
opening other ones. I did not notice any bloat or slowdown on my relatively
powerful Windows XP system.

Both Kerios are good, but Kerio 4 definitely has the edge for me.

Maybe we should recommend Kerio 2 for older systems and Kerio 4 for new
ones?

I prefer the older version. It is simple to use, secure as far as I
know, and requires almost nothing to run.

The last time I tried v4 was on a 500mhz with 256 megs of ram. Zone
Alarm was the first thought that came to mind... it just seemed
needlessly bloated with features that stop working after 30 days iirc.

I have a 2.6ghz with 1 gig of ram now, and I still trust and run
v2.1.5. It's just been a great program that is still useful imo.

v2.1.5 is definitely still a good program. I just feel v4 is much more user
friendly and is very underrated here.
