I'd make startup utilities a separate category.

I'd move Add/Remove Pro to the install/uninstall utilities. I know it
deals only with the registry, but people use it in connection with
uninstalling programs.

Yeah, I was being "pedantic." The thing just deals with a registry key,
that's all. It doesn't monitor an install, or help in that way at all.
Your point that people would look for it under install/uninstall, I can't
dispute that.

My first instinct is to put system tweakers in the System Utilities
section.

I don't think progammers even bother tweaking their systems anyway. :)

They just focus on pounding together code, letting all the wild runtimes and
libraries run about furiously every which way, as they work, then deal with
cleanup via regular OS reinstalls. <discalaimer! speculation kidding etc>

omega said:
IMO, they just need to be all clumped adjacent to each other. Not
saying they're all members of an identical category, at all. How's it
look with spacing?

Looks good!

You may be kidding, but you're right on with associating programming with
pounding together code. Somehow, system tweaking doesn't fit...

jason said:
Are you saying this should be under SYSTEM UTILITIES, but called File
Utilities-Backup? Wouldn't it belong under FILE UTILITIES???

I'm not trying to work across global cats, I had the impression we were
too late for that? So if we have to work just within the System Utilities
page, then best I can say is that this entry here is pretty much File
Utilities:Backup.

I think the reason it got here in the first place, might be that Susan
saw it as "System Administration." Since I believe groups are staying put
at this point in time, our best hope would be to have a "See Also" on the
File Utilities page...

Sounds good.

Sounds good.

On this "misc" post, I just clumped a bunch of like things together. I wish
for something more structured, anything a tad more hierarchical. But when you
look at all those clumps, it's hard to see a way to order their placement
all together, beyond the first clumpings...

Susan Bugher said:
IOW I grouped by the type of operation they perform - I think you are
grouping by what part of the system they effect . . .

I'm intimate with 90% of the tools on the page, where it becomes most natural
to separate registry tools from file tools from install monitors, etc. I
really believe it'd be the same with most all system tools fans...
Have just glanced at your posts - will start trying to digest them now.

I'm not sure what next step is? Wait for more posts? Or that you, or I,
or someone, tries to post a revised draft, using the numbering system?

jason said:

My hesitation has mostley to do with the issue that this page already has
such a high number of varied categories, that makes it overmuch....

It could be possible useful for these to be x-ref'd on the anti-malware
page ?

Backup Utilities are in SYSTEM UTILITIES in PL2003 - IMO they could be
in either FILE UTILITIES OR SYSTEM UTILIIIES - I left them where people
are used to seeing them . . .

Karen - This seems to be what you've come up with so far - I haven't
gone through the last flurry of posts to see if any have changed. The
top list is in the order that they appear on the web page now. Below
that is an alphabetical list.

I labeled one program with a category of zzz to indicate you thought it
should be moved to another page.

I'm going to take a harder look now at your suggestions.

Susan

Definitely. In fact, I think we have this argument every year...should
it go under SYSTEM or SECURITY!

Thank you, I used it. Then stripped it down to the skeleton. To see how the
layout looks...(?) I can add the programs back to the groupings shortly.
Could you add numbers to your categories?

This is what I just sent <[email protected]>
Should I try to figure out how to add numbers to that?

Can you look over <[email protected]> and see
about inserting revision into there, and any other aspects for structuring?

While you were numbering too - I started at the top of the list I sent
and every time *your* name changed I increased the number.

Perhaps you could *revise* the numbers as needed to rearrange the goups
the way you think they should be?
