pixilated pictures in IE6 .. what's wrong?

Please, can someone explain to me why I can't see clearly any, .GIF, .JPG on
IE? Is there a setting that can be changed? I have no problem with seeing
pictures clearly with other programs, background on desktop, in video games,
etc.
..GIF, for example, are faded, no detail, basic colors and sometimes
completely unreadable if there is text involved.
I also have no trouble viewing regular text ... only borders, bullets,
buttons and pictures.

Anyone have any suggestions on what this can be?

What kind of Internet connection are you using?
If it is a Dial-Up connection with some supposed "Web Accelerator"
component, then there is your answer. You are not actually connecting
at a higher speed, but rather they strip down graphics to make it appear
like you are browsing more quickly. End result is blurry pictures such
as you are now experiencing. Is such the case?

You have a Dell laptop or another laptop with a high screen resolution
(like 1600x1200)? If true, see if the following fixes your problem:

RWS ..

Thank you sooo much! I use Verizon Broadband Wireless connection, and
included with their software, is a program called Venturi 2 ... a web
accelerator. I just disabled it and now all graphics in IE come in crystal
clear!
I had no idea the accelerator might cause the problem, as there was no
mention of it when installing the Verizon software.

Again, thank you very much ...

Ottmar,
Thanks for the reply. It's useful information, though it didn't help my
situation. Hope it helps someone else.
My problem was the web accelerator. Once disabled, all graphics are crystal
clear.

Thanks

Of course not. Why tell the customer about the bad effects of your program.
