Pivot Table

I've created a pivot table. The data is text with some cells left blank. I
cannot seem to get a count for the blank cells. The pivot table shows the
label "blank" but the total is left blank. I can't seem to figure it out.
I've even gone to the input spreadsheet and formatted the specific column as
text. Still nothing. Any thoughts??
 
The pivot table won't give a count of blank cells.

You could use a space character, or the formula ="", instead of leaving
the cells blank. The pivot table will be able to count those.
