Pivot table won't refresh after external data update on open

Hi,

Could somebody tell me why my pivot table won't refresh after I update my
external data source in excel. What I'm assuming is happening is this:

1. I have "refresh on open" checked on the pivot table.
2. I believe that it first refreshes and THEN goes out to my ACCESS
database to refresh external data, hence my pivot table is not updating and I
have to do it manually.

Can someone help?
