Pivot Table Limits

I have a pivot table that summarizes across 6 row fields.
I.e., if you look at it in the wizard layout view, it
shows one piece of data being summarized with 6 fields in
the rows, none in the columns and none in the pages.

Problem: I seem to be hitting some sort of Excel limit. I
get the error "Excel cannot make this change because there
are too many row or column items. Drag at least one row or
column field off the Pivot Table, or to the page position.
Alternatively, right click a field, and then click Hide or
Hide levels on the shortcut menu"

Analysis: I have been able to narrow it down to adding one
additional VALUE for one of the fields. The problem is not
related to the number of records being summarized. With
the same number of records the pivot table will calculate
ok. When I add an altogether new value for one of the
fields (rows) being summarized, I get this error.

Question: Is this known behavior and a limit within Excel?
