Ping not understood

Cannot get the ping command to function in the command
prompt. The error returned is 'ping' is not recognized as
an internal or external command, operable program or
batch file. I check the windows/system32 folder and it
appears there and when I run the command from the run
command window it goes.

Any ideas?

go to the dos prompt. to do this, click start, click run, type in: command,
then hit the enter key. at the dos prompt, type these in:
cd\
cd\windows\system32
ping (put in any web address here, minus the parenthesis's)

type exit and hit enter to exit from the dos screen after.
