Ping error 65

This seems to be different to other cases I have seen and as yet it is not
cured. 2 computers are connected directly from a Dlink 504 router. It has worked
for some years like that. This one is w2k sp4 plus updates and in perfect order,
the troubled one is a XP sp2. The XP will see W2k and see any folder I have made
available on the net but will not connect to the outer world, except it does
connect via MS Internet Explorer. All others are useless such as ftp, eudora,
Firefox and free agent as the most used items.

The trouble started with no boot one day of the XP. I suspected the drive. Being
a WD I brought out the diagnostic floppie which told me it was not a WD Disk,
surprising as I took it out and there was the mark of Western Digital all over
it. It was bought last year on the 14 of Feb and broke down on the 14 of Feb
this year so I was in a hurry to get it exchanged as the dealer will only do it
for 12 months. He declared that there was nothing wrong. Took it back and
installed XP Pro SP2 - that showed me a completely blank C: partition so I think
they may have formatted it maybe even at low level.

I eventually found an Acronis Image of C and placed that in position. All is
well and back to normal now except for the PING ERROR 65.
