Ping does not work

Hello,

I upgraded my notebook to Vista Home Premium.

I cannot make it visible in my local network (Prestige 660ME-T3 Linksys
switch) and I cannot discover the other computers. The DSL gateway to
Internet works fine however. But a ping back to my own IPv4 address fails
(Realtek RTL8139/810x fast Ethenet adapter). I can just ping the gateway but
it cannot ping my notebook. Therefore I can configure shares on this computer
but I cannot access them. Windows does not see any network problem and cannot
fix it (discovery services are configured and the IP network looks fine).
Could it be a firewall problem or a hardware problem ?

Hello Robert,

Looking at other questions on ping issues, I thought that Norton Security
Center could be the problem. I did not look if something in the Norton
configuration could cause this ping problem, I just uninstalled it and now it
works. I use now OneCare. Anyway I did not like the Norton software... Thanks
for your answer.

By the way I will post a multiboot problem. I have installed Vista Premium
and XP in two partitions but the multiboot does not work. Do you have a
reason for that ?

Thanks and regards, Jack.
