Pictures replicate when attempting to delete pictures

When I try to delete pictures from the MY Pictures folder in Windows XP, they
seem to go to the Recycle bin, but additional copies of the same pictures
appear in the my Picture folder. I have tried several ways of deleting them
and the same thing happens. It is creating a storage problem in My Pictures.
I have Windows Xp installed on a Gateway computer.
Please help. I also have Noton Anti Virus which is updated.

When you select images and hold the ctrl key and move, even slightly the images will
copy. To prevent this from happening, once you have selected the files to delete,
right-click, click delete...

And I suggest Use TweakUI - one of the XP Powertoys from (if you have
installed XP SP1)
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp
Its Mouse page, put up the 'drag sensitivity' to say 25, so you have to
drag an icon quite a way before it decides to mean it
