When I navigate to a website, sometimes it seems to
have 'invisble' pictures, which, on loading of page, may
come up as blank [X] boxes, which I have to right click
on the box and click 'Show Picture' to get rid of it.

For instance: navigate Windows Catalog, choose a product:
sometimes you may see small blank boxes beside paragraphs.

How do I get rid of this problem?

No, the picture is available. Only that IE doesn't load
it immediately- sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't.

I don't believe it's my firewall either.

firewall blocks picture. or picture not available on site.

Images/Pictures

Clear the IE cache. I.E./Tools/Options/General/Delete files (and delete
offline content.) It's often recommended that the Temporary Internet Files
(folder) be kept at
40-50 MB. Bigger isn't necessarily better.
If still no joy then have a look at this page for other issues.
