Pictures Blacked out

I am having problems with inserting pictures when I create a new presentation
and insert a picture into a new slide. I can see the picture but when I save
and exit from powerpoint. Then open up my previous presentation that I have
saved the picture is all blacked out. If I create another new slide and then
add a`picture this picture is`blacked out in the presentation.

Is there away get the picture back?

Which version of PPT?

Are the pictures actually black, or are they invisible?

How are you creating the pictures? What format are they?

How are you inserting the pictures onto your slides?
