Can anyone tell mee if it is possible to use jpg - files as background om my
desktop. When I try I can only choose backgroundfiles and that is bmp. I
have an other computer where I can choose bmp, jpg ,gif and more. What is
the difference?

The difference is that this background image reguires in bmp extension. If you have Miceoasoft Office and enabled image extensions when you installed it you can open a jpg image in mspaint (Start | Run | mspaint | OK) and open the jpg with that. Then Save as... a bmp (24-bit). Then you can use the image as a background for the desktop.

Another way is to open the jpeg using Microsoft Internet Explorer. Then right-click the image and choose Set as wallpaper. This will make a bmp that you can change if you want in right-click desktop | Properties | scroll down here you will see something like "New IE wallpaper" something like that. Just choose a different backgound or none. That image will then be removed.

If you enable Active Desktop, you'll have no trouble using a *.jpg
files as the desktop background.
