Picture Gallery (Frontpage 2003)

Houman

Hi There,

I know how to insert a picture gallery, choose my pictures
and the style (e.g. Slide show) to put them convenient on
my site.

There is only one disadvantage of the slide show. The two
arrows for going left and right do just move one new
picture in for selecting. Rather I would like to have the
whole row of thumnails replaced by the remaining pictures
with each click to the left or right. This is much less
confusing and the visitor won't need to click that much.

How can I change the value of left and right arrow how
many thumbnails should be loaded into the bar with each
click?

Thanks
Houman

If you need this feature, you should probably look for a
third-party photo gallery.

There's probably a way of changing the JavaScript code
that FrontPage generates so it does what you want, but I
usually steer away from that direction. For one thing,
the FrontPage-generated code isn't very easy to work
with. For another, FrontPage has a way of overwriting
such changes the next time you save the page or
recalculate hyperlinks.

Check out JAlbum, it's pretty cool and relatively easy to use.

It is Java though so you (and your viewers) may need to have or install JVM.

r.

Thank you. It looks nice. The only one which looks
similiar to FP 2003 Slideshow is the last one called
vertical.

Hi Jim,

You are right, it doesn't make sense to mess up with FP's
internal code since it gets overwritten. I am not afraid
of using thrid party stuff, I am just so busy that I
really don't have any second for investing into HTML
design or programming.

Thats why FP 2003 is the perfect programm for me: creating
a website with minimal effort. :) Thats why I will try
out the vertical layout.

But now I have another question:

I would like to change the fonts for the description of
each picture in the gallery.

I have set the family font to 8pt verdana.

Then I insert a gallery, which still seems to be ok.

But then as soon as I insert a Pic the default font
changes to Times New Roman 12pt. Why is that?

Thank you
Houman

Text formatting in the Photo Gallery component is strictly
per-selection. So you select the caption for one picture,
format it, then select the caption for the next picture, format
it, and so forth. There's no way to tell FrontPage, "Make this
the default for all captions in this photo gallery."

You may have better luck using CSS to assign fonts to the HTML
tags that the photo gallery uses, as in:

td {font-family: Arial, sans-serif; }
