Picture compression question

I have saved a document compressing pictures and deleting cropped areas of
pix. This has reduced the file size nicely. My question is: as I keep working
on the document and adding pictures, can I compress again without losing
quality of already compressed pix?

It depends to a great extent on what type of image file you're dealing with.
If a .jpg, they are quite lossy and will deteriorate some each time they are
modified. Most other types (.tif, .bmp, .gif, etc,) should hold up ok.

IMHO, it would be better to wait until the doc is complete before
compressing for a number of reasons. Operating speed and image quality are
at the top of the list. Besides, many image file types can only be
compressed so much in the first place.
