pick from a list

I'm trying to use the data validation list option. I have
specific cells which are colors that are the source of a
list. They are: green, yellow, red. The source cells are
also filled those colors. How do I get the list to pick up
the actual color besides just the name? I think I may
need to write a macro for it, but not sure how?

Try conditional formatting instead.
