Photosmart C7280 -- HP won't support the Ethernet / wireless network

I have been looking around at the HP Photosmart C7280 multifunction
printer, locally in my area. On one the local store's web site, there
is a customer review which states that HP will not support any
multifunction printer on any network set up.

Does anyone know if this is true?

I believe that it's a matter of semantics. HP sells the printer for use in a
"home" "office". This implies support at some level.
On the other hand, solving individual network related problems that prevent
the unit from working is likely what the reference concerned.
For instance, "some P/Cs on my network are able to connect and use the unit,
and others cannot."
In any event, you might want to look at the reviews to see what others say
about the unit.

I have an older model lan capable Brother multifunction connected to my home
network. It generally works OK, but nothing to write home about. In
addition, at my last workplace, we had an HP Laser multifunction that once
setup (pain in rear), worked well with win 2k.

In general, lan based multifunctions work well for printing, and have driver
and application software related problems with the fax and scan functions.
This is most noticable when a new version of windows is released, and the
fax & scan functions do not have updated drivers available. As a result, I
seldom use the lan based fax & scan capabilities of multifunctions, and
instead use these functions locally at the unit.

Then, I would believe more in the fact that HP would not support this
printer if it is connected to a USB hub. I seen statements for other
USB devices that the device maker recommends their unit to be
connected directly to one of the PC's on-board USB ports.

That is not true. See the setup guide at
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01098538.pdf for details of setting up
this printer with either wired or wireless networking. I do not own a C7280
but have used various Photosmart and Officejet all-in-ones on networks for
half a dozen years or more.

HP has in the past provided basic versions of drivers that did not support
networking, in addition to the full featured drivers which had networking
support. For the C7280 even the basic version of the driver supports
networking,
