PhotoGallery

I can't install the windows utility cleaner to make this same problem go away
because it says another installation is in progress(Photogallery).

I'm not sure what you are referring to in the first part of your sentence.

I do understand what utility you are speaking of, and the issue that you
find you are blocked by.

Is this happening on Windows XP?

This thread:

http://www.tech-archive.net/Archive/Win2000/microsoft.public.win2000.general/2004-07/3496.html

probably contains your fix--look for the information from Mark Brown, of
Microsoft.

However, it is quite lengthy and complex.

I would consider Step 9 in that thread as a possible way to proceed and get
more information.

Here's an alternative brute force method:

If you have the installation media for PhotoGallery, or can get it, consider
removing that application via add or remove programs. If you are using it,
reinstall it.

See whether that clears things up.

When I boot up my laptop a screen comes up that says, "Please wait while
Windows configures PhotoGallery." Then I have another small screen that
says, "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is
unavailable. Click OK to try again or enter an alternate path to a folder
containing the installation package, "PhotoGallery.msi" in the box below."

Meanwhile I can't download things like Norton Anti-virus because it says to
complete the installation that is already taking place. Assuming it means
the PhotoGallery issue.

Click cancel when you see that dialog box.

Keep clicking cancel until it goes away, for the moment.

Download and install the tool described in this Microsoft KB article:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

Once it is installed (the link is in the KB article), run the cleanup tool
and look at the list of installed products. Be cautious--you may need to
reinstall anything you delete with this tool, if you need it again. Look
for PhotoGallery in the list, highlight it, and delete it.

Let's see if that eliminates the symptom.

Then perhaps you can say what else is wrong that got you this far?
(and, is this on XP, or on Vista?)

I can click cancel all day and it keeps popping back up. I tried to download
that tool(Utility cleaner) and it can't. It says another installation is in
progress. Error code 1500. I don't have anything else trying to download
other than the continued PhotoGallery message.

UNCHECK Yahoos toolbar during install.
UNCHECK Windows Defender in the applications.

Tip: Mr.G recommend using the default checked boxes and running Advanced
maybe once a month or so,

It is fine to have things ticked in SYSTEM, but it would not be advisable to
tick anything in Advanced unless you are sure what you are doing.

Go for scans in safe mode

The first time you run CCleaner's Issues scanner you'll have to keep running
it back-to-back until it finds nothing.

One scenario is a registry key may only be a reference pointing to a
completely different location in the registry and when it's removed then that
reference link is also noticed as being invalid on a subsequent scan.

It's generally a good idea to keep running the Issues scan until nothing is
listed.

Reboot

Good luck

Sorry for being a pain in the neck but I can't do that either. I can't
really download and install anything without getting the same error message,
"Another installation in progress. Finish the installation before attempting
another." I really don't have anything else outstanding to be downloaded
other than this PhotoGallery issue.

Also, I deleted my Google toolbar and don't know where to uncheck windows
defender in applications.

I'm ready to send my fist through this computer. Your help is appreciated!

Have you tried doing a System Restore to a point in time before you started
experiencing this problem then try deleting again ?
