Phoenix Bios 4 release 6, how to change drive parameters

I have a hard drive problem where the parameters of my hard drive have somehow changed. This is an old PII 350mHz computer with a Phoenix Bios version 4 release 6. When I look in the bios to see about changing the hard drive parameters (the # of cylinders somehow changed from 903 to 1024 and the computer is running very slowly now, and some things don't work) it is set on Auto, and it is not obvious how, if even possible, I would get to the parameters and change them. I've done this in the past with AMI bios, no problem, in the days when you had to set them yourself. But this bios makes it a very obscure process.

Can someone give me instructions for doing this?

Thanks,

jc

All you really know is that Spinrite claims that. Its unlikely.
and the computer is running very slowly now,

That is very unlikely to be due to that.

That is what it should be set to and that shouldnt be changed now.

You dont want to change them now.

You shouldnt be doing that and it wont help anyway.

If the number of cylinders really did change as Spinrite
claims, that would just result in some more free space
at the end of the original partitions and is no big deal.

Thanks for straightening me out on the effect of more cylinders...I'll stop
worrying about that and look in a different direction for solutions to my
problem.
