Phantom Files

I have an EXCEL application running on a network. When users modify the data
and save the file, sometimes the data is not saved to the file, but a phantom
file appears with random naming of alpha-numeric characters. This phantom
file consequently has the most recent version of the data.

Has anyone had a similar experience with an EXCEL network application or may
know why this file is generated?

what version of excel are you useing. if you don't know,
in an empty cell type =info("release")
