Personalize boot.ini

M

medic

Hi, My boot.ini is this:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft
Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\Windows="Windows
98" /fastdetect

Can I change it to:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="My windows
XP" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\Windows="Your Windows
98" /fastdetect

Maybe silly question but just wondering if I can
personalize it??

Yes you can.
But be careful with the "location" part
("multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)") of the entries.

Hi,

Yes, as long as you only change the wording inside the quotes.

That's sweet to hear that I can personalize it. Thank
you Rick and Zoltan. I'll be very careful :)

He wasn't kidding when he said be careful! If you mess that file up and
have NTFS you could end up in deep doodo! I've seen people end up
reinstalling windows for their mistakes.

I understand not to edit other characters except the name
of the OS (quoted) because all I want is to change what
it is going to be displayed before Windows will boot-up.

I managed to personalize the boot.ini. It is now showing
Mine and Yours, instead of Microsoft Windows XP
Professional and Windows 98.

Thanks.
