Personalised email (for newsletter)

Is there a way I can send a personalised email to a group of friends
(about 20) without me having to type different emails to each of them?

I want to send a (plain text) email to them but have it personal e.g.
Dear Tom/Sally/John etc. and perhaps a one-liner of personal info in the
middle e.g. Are the kids well?/Did you get the job?/How was the
marathon? etc.

I have Outlook 2002 and Outlook Express 6 so using them or a program (or
add-on) that will allow me to use Outlook contacts would be awesome!
Thanks
PS - It wouldn't be worth the hassle having to type in about 200 names
from my contacts into a new address book to send a fortnightly email.
And NO...it would not be for spam - just personal for friends.

Put their names in the "bcc: field. When you create a mailing
list of your friends you can specify this. Then each
recipient only sees their own name on the mail.

You can use the mail merge from within Word for this. It works with your

I am using Word97 - so hope it can be done with this version. Do you
know if I can do it with this version or would I need a newer version?
I am trying to choose the Data Source but don't see where I can select
Outlook Contacts - help!

I just tried this and got a message:
To use this feature, you must install the version of Microsoft Word that
matches the installed version of Microsoft Outlook.

Darn!!! I was really hoping for a way to do this!

There are quite a few 3rd party mass mailing programs out there that may
help you. Check the list here:

Fletmail. See <http://www.snapfiles.com/get/fletmail.html>. Also
does attachments. Works beautifully for my annual Xmas list with
personalized addresses, greetings, message-insertions, and attached
card. The download is only 236 kb.

The drawback is that once a year I have to review the list for
address changes, but I have to review the list for other things,
anyway.
