When using Outlook 2003 or 2007, what is the maximum amount of personal
folders allowed, if any. I have a user with 75+ .PST folders open at 1 time.
Will this cause problems?

I dont believe their is a finite number, but size might be relevent also.
Its likely to cause a degregation in performance

Thanks for the input DL. The largest if 1.7 GB and the smallest if close to
110 kb. What happens is when the user tries to copy a mail from his inbox to
almost any of the .pst folders, the machine will gag and give him an error
that not enough memory is allocated to the operation. The laptop has a full
2 GB installed. OS is Windows XP Pro. So I am grabbing at some straws for
help here.

If you take a mean average of 0.5gb thats in the region of 30gb or so, I'm
not surprised theres problems.
Personally I think the user needs to rethink their methods of filing,
presumably they dont use archive.
After all can any user make any real use of 30gb of mail?
But then the user is probably a senior person with their own perceptions - I
feel for you
One thing, if there are many large attachments included in mail, there are
third party tools that will strip the attachment from within OL and store it
seperately on the HD with a link within the origonal mail.
www.slipstick.com has a selection

Again I thank you DL. He is a uppeer mid level manager of contract
administration. So he has a history of emails going back 15+ years. I agree
completely that he does not need all of these folders open at the same time.
He can still have them, just not active all the time. I think we could par
down that 75 PST's to 30 or less without much problem. I have another
appointment with him this morning and will try to sell him on that idea.

In the meantime, I have run the InBox Repair Tool on 15 of his PST's and
have found repairable problems in almost all so far. But I still keep comng
back to the idea of not having them open all the time.

Do you have any more thoughts?

Are you saying they have 75 folders in a single PST or 75 separate PSTs?
