Environment ;

Windows 2000 server, AD in native mode, workstations are Windows XP pro and Windows 2000 pro.

Problem

I have installed excel (from office 2000) on a Windows 2000 member server in application mode. I followed the procedure from the documentation on the microsoft web site (with the transform file from the office resource kit). When the first user opens excel, no problem. When another one opens it, it says that perso.xls is in read only since someone else is using it and I can notify.......

I have uninstalled, re-installed, same thing. What can be the problem

Thanks

When excel opens it has a linked workbook (personal.xls) that you ca
use to store personal macros and other things. You can get the sam
effect as what you are doing if you open excel twice on the desktop.

The simplest solution I know is:

Do a find in wondows on the HD where you have installed excel for file
named "personal" (or in your case "perso").

Right click the file and set it's properties to "Read Only"

This will suppress the message shown on xl startup but users will no
be able to use this personal workbook to store macros etc.
