Hi,
I have server1 and server2 both are windows 2000 servers
member of a same domain e.g.I have some folders in the
server1 needs to be moved to the server2 and the
permissions in the folder should be carried along !!!!!!
is that possible , and the local group in the server1 does
not exist on the server2.

regards,
sathish

Hello, local groups are local and are based peer-computer as well local
accounts, you may use a Domain Local Group or add another local group to
server2.

NTFS Security inheritable from the parent object. You can diss allow
inheritable by to go the properties of the parent folder , the security tab
then click the Advanced button and uncheck the Allow inheritable
permissions...

In addition to what chriss3 says, you can use a tool like scopy to ensure
you are taking the ACLs along for the ride too.

If you MOVE a folder the permissions go with it.
If you COPY a folder windows is effectively making a new copy of the
folder so it will inherit the permissions of the parent folder or drive
that you copy it to.
