Not exactly sure if this problem is related more to Windows 2000 or the
specific app I am trying to set up. This application is Cad Key and the Cad
Key site seems to offer no clue to a solution. The problems is as follows:

When I have to set up a station for a user who will use this application I
always run into a problem. The program will ONLY run as the user who
installed it, but the installation demands you be at least local
administrator. Hence my predicament. I can not leave a user logged into
their local station with administrator privilege, and if I do they then are
not logged into the network.

Any suggestions??

TIA
Bryan

Use the "Set Program Access and Defaults" utility to grant access to
non-admin users.

Thanks Gerry, but kind of lost here....not the first time of course :-)

THis utility off the START menu not only does not "seem" to have a field or
area associated with assigning permission, but it also does not list this
program that I am having problems with.

I am obviously missing something here...What is it??

Thanks
Bryan

No...you're not missing anything. This feature is only available for a
select few applications. Third party developers apparently can register
with MS and take advantage of this.

More than likely the root of your problem is that there are only a few files
that a regular user needs slightly elevated rights in order to get the
application to run (I know this was true when trying to get AutoCad to run
as a user). You can download a file monitor tool
(http://www.sysinternals.com/) to find out what is getting accessed during
the launch of the application. You can then adjust permissions accordingly.

Also...have you contacted support from the Cad Key company? I'm sure
they've encountered this problem before. And finally, you might want to
post a message to one of the cad groups.

Thanks Greg...
Our maintenance contract with Cad Key has expired and not been renewed. IT
is not an app we use a whole lot and so maintenance renewal was not deemed
as being prudent. Will take your advice aobut the SYSINTERNAL tool as well
as trying to hunt up some Cad Groups.

THanks Again
Bryan
