After upgrading to xp from win2000 i find performance has slowed quite
considerably, other than defrag what other methods to improve performance
would help? would lowering the screen resolution and reducing colour depth
help?
would doing a clean install help?

What is the spec of your computer? try eliminating all possible space on
your system drive as possible. lowering screen res and colour depth would
help slightly but not considerably depending on what you have it set to
right now?

Run XP in classic mode, a la Windows 2000 appearance.. it makes quite a
difference.. as a start, you might want to right click on START - properties
and check the Classic entry.. then go to 'Performance' in Control panel to
finish off the conversion..

How much RAM memory? Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to bring Task Manager and
select the Performance Tab. What is the Commit Charge? What was the
Peak?

How large is your hard drive? Is it partitioned? How much free space on
each drive / partition. How is the drive formatted -FAT32 or NTFS. To
get this information whilst in Windows Explorer place the cursor on the
drive, right click and select Properties.

What is your CPU speed?

What arrangements do you have for dealing with spyware?
