Performance problem with xp pro

Hi



In the last few days PC has gone slower and slower. It is a 2.x MHz PC with
1Gb RAM. I ran SpyBot and it did not find any spy ware. The only major
change I can think is dumping Live OneCare and install AVG instead.



Any tip son improving the performance would be appreciated.

OneCare has had bad reviews and has "failed" to help a lot of systems.

As for the slow downs, you need to run other anti-spyware utilities
beside SpyBot. Not every anti-spyware utilities will detect
everything. You should use many different ones and hope that these
can clear out most "infestations."

Other "good" anti-spywares:

AD Aware
Spyware Terminator
 
Also a sudden/noticeable loss of performance may be due to the disk
or volume that holds Windows being in a "Dirty" or inconsistent state.
You can check that from a Command Prompt Window (Type)
Chkdsk C: [Enter]
A cursory or Read-Only pass of Chkdsk will let you know if your
drive is Dirty or Clean and recommend a second pass using /F or /R.
