Performance issues

I regularly watch the odd video on my computer which is a powerful machine in
itself. Video card is an ATI Radeon 9200.

When watching in full screen, i used to get the smoothest running episodes
of Stargate and Lost etc and almost perfect pixellation.

Now, the videos jog and lose track with the sound, and clear blocky
pixellation appears on all videos i watch, including DVDs.

Do you think this is a performance issue, a video issue or time for a new
computer?

Any repsonse would be greatly appreciated

What RAM memory?

After encountering try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to bring Task Manager and
select the Performance Tab. What is the Commit Charge? What was the
Peak?

What are your arrangements for detecting spyware?

I would download and install cCleaner
http://www.ccleaner.com/ccdownload.asp
http://www.ccleaner.com/

Once you have installed cCleaner create a new System Restore point.
http://bertk.mvps.org/html/createrp.html

Next start cCleaner and select the Issues tab and check all boxes.
Select scan and then check all boxes before the Issues identified and
click on Fix. If anything subsequently seems wrong you can always you
use the System Restore point to put the Registry back to what it was
before running cCleaner. Otherwise you need to proceed slowly with
cCleaner. Try out bits at a time to see how it works and what it does.

What make and model is your computer?

Are you running the Videos from a DVD or CD? What programme and version
are you using to run the Video?

What CPU speed? What is the make and model of your hard drive or hard
drives. How large is it and how much free space? If the drive is
partitioned the information for each partition would be helpful. What is
the make and model of the DVD / CD drive used for videos?

You might do well to download and install Everest Home Edition. This
freeware programme is excellent for getting information about your
computer:

Look in Event Viewer over the period you are running a video for Error
and Warning Reports in the System and Application sections and post
copies here.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools,
Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information
regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;enus;308427&Product=winxp

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message(email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. This will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report
complete with links into the message. Make sure this is the first paste
after exiting from Event Viewer.

Hope this helps.

My computer is a Packard Bell iExtreme with an Intel Pentium 4 Processor
which clocks 2.4gHz.

I am running the videos direct from my Samsung Hard Drive which is 105GB of
which 42.5 GB remains. The Hard Drive is not partitioned.

My DVD-ROM and DVD-RAM are both generic drives which came with the computer
at purchase.

I tried running event viewer when watching the video but no messages came up
concerning the video.

This has only happened recently and i cannot understand what change has
happened to cause this

Thanks

Andy

**EDIT**

I have installed Everest Home addition recently and when i look under
Chipset in the motherboard section it says:

Problem - AGP aperture size is more than half of the system memory size.
This may cause performance penalty.

Also, my system is Windows Media Centre 2004, when i try and start the media
centre program it says:

"Your video card or drivers are not compatible with Media Centre"

This has never said this when trying to start Media Centre previously
