I was using Windows ME but have since upgraded to XP.
Everything was working fine until one day my wife messed
up the computer somehow. Nobody could figure it out so
we had to do a quick restore. Everything loaded great
but it seems to be using a great deal of resources now.
When I'm in AOL and scroll down through pages of
information I get the cascading effect; real slow
scrolling. My first guess is that the system defaulted
back to normal startup. How do I fix this?

2 reasons.

the system restore might have restored the default settings of the performance which takes a toll on the system performance.

Right click on My Computer
choose properties from the drop down menu
a window pops up
click on advanced
click the first Settings button in the performance tab.
now do the following
click on the button adjust for best performance.
all the check boxes next to each feature in the box will disappear.
now click ok and u will be able to get extra performance
Sometimes u might get switched to classic view.
restore the winxp view from apperance tab in Properties of System.

another reason.
uninstall and reinstall the display drivers.
