Does anyone know what program generates/uses the file
called "perflib_perfdata_###" (### is some combination of
letters/numerals)?

I was trying to fix an Age of Empires installation and
was told to clear the %temp% folder. I recall being able
to delete all files in the %temp% folder the first time.
But now, I can't - because that perflib_perfdata file is
there (and cannot be deleted.)

If you encounter a file in the Temp folder that will not delete, this means
that it is still being used by the system or another program. The
"perflib_perfdata" files you see are created by the Performance and
Monitoring Tools. You can turn this off in Control Panel/Add or Remove
Programs/Windows Components, by removing the check mark there.

You might want to reboot and before doing anything else, go to the Temp
folder and delete whatever you find there.
