Percon Program Generator

I have a bar code reader project that I am going to be
working on in the coming weeks. The client has the
readers already and they are Percon PT 2000's.

From what I can find, I need to use the Percon Program
Generator to program the barcode on sending it some data
(basically patient name for validation that the user
scanned the correct thing) and receiving back data from
the scanner into a text file.

I can then programatically grab the text file and do all
my updates to the database.

My question is, has anyone used this Percon Program
Generator before. I can't seem to find much info on in on
the web.

This is an extremely simple application. There are 100
patients and I need to print out a few pages of barcodes
with names on it. As the patient comes to eat, the user
scans the appropriate bar code. The name of the patient
pops up in the window on the bar code reader for
validation, and that is about it. I then need to dump all
the scans to a text file of some flavor so i can process
it.

Anyway, the PPG is the only part that I am not sure of. If
anyone has any experience with this, please advise.

Thanks,
PZ

The Percon Program Generator is a Windows application that lets you
create programs (scripts, really) for the PT2000. It works like
drawing a flow chart; there are are idiosyncracies, but not too bad.

Percon was acquired by PSC a couple of years ago, but the PT2000 does
not seem to be listed on their site (www.pscnet.com) any longer. You
should be able to purchase the program generator through SystemID.com
or a number of other on-line stores. It used to be priced at around
$295.
