Hi Everyone,

I am creating Access database for logging complaints.

-I would like to be able to print reports each week and see how many
complaints did I get.
- Sort the report by type of complaint
- See percentage in relation to the total number of complaints.

My question is how should I be approaching this? What fields should I have
so I can calculate the percentage?

Many thanks.

It sounds like you already have a good handle on what you need:

* type of complaint
* complaint info (?who, ?when, ?what)

Are you sure you need a database? It sounds like something you could easily
keep in Excel...

I am not really sure. But I think I do. I will have to collect history too
and connect each complaint to an employee.

I am not sure if I can create all reports and macros in Excel.

I would like to give the end User a form to enter the data. Validate the
data. Print reports and stats with a click of a button. Can I do that in
Excel?

Jeff many thanks for your help.

You'd probably want to post the question to one of the Excel newsgroups. I
use Access a lot and can imagine doing what you described in Access.

I'm asking more for what level of skill/experience you have in either Excel
or Access, and how much time you are willing to invest. To create an
extremely simple application in Access is ... fairly simple.

To create an application that provides data entry forms, validates user data
entry, provides reports "with a click", and generally prevents the user from
hurting the data or him/herself, is more than a simple exercise. Access has
a fairly steep learning curve for doing some of those kinds of things.

Are you looking to invest your time to learn how, or do you just need
something that works?<g>
